Metricon | Brand & Product Strategy

Defining a New Category Between Validation, Analytics and Product Decisions

Overview

Metricon started as an exploration of a common problem in software validation.

Teams collect large amounts of testing data every day:

  • recordings
  • telemetry
  • screenshots
  • logs
  • comments

Yet despite having more information than ever, teams still struggle to answer a simple question:

What should we do next?

Most existing tools focus on visibility, monitoring, replay, or analytics. The opportunity was not to create another testing tool, but to define a product that helps teams transform validation evidence into actionable decisions.

The Challenge

The market already offers mature solutions for:

  • session replay
  • mobile observability
  • product analytics
  • performance monitoring

However, validation knowledge often remains fragmented across multiple systems and stakeholders.

QA teams collect evidence.

Developers investigate issues.

Product teams make release decisions.

The information exists, but the decision-making process remains disconnected.

The challenge was to identify a positioning opportunity beyond testing, monitoring, and analytics.

Research Insight

During the research phase, a recurring pattern emerged.

Most platforms help teams understand what happened.

Few platforms are designed around helping teams decide what to do next.

This insight became the foundation of the entire strategy.

Instead of focusing on telemetry or replay as the primary value, the product was reframed around validation reporting and decision support.

Positioning Statement

Metricon transforms validation sessions into interactive reports, helping teams analyze evidence, collaborate across disciplines, and make better product decisions.

Brand Promise

Transform validation sessions into actionable decisions.

Core Product Model

Metricon-Core Product Model

This model became the central organizing principle of the product.

Rather than treating recordings as the final output, recordings became the starting point for a broader validation process.

Smart Assistance

Metricon-Smart Assistance

While most competitors focus on AI summaries and issue detection, Metricon explores how repeated validation activities can become reusable organizational knowledge.

This layer supports the core workflow without replacing it.

Brand Principles

Validation

Capture the full testing context.

Evidence

Support findings with data.

Collaboration

Create a shared source of truth across teams.

Strategic Outcome

The project resulted in a clear product category, positioning framework, audience definition, and messaging architecture.

This strategic foundation later informed:

  • brand identity
  • marketing website
  • onboarding experience
  • application architecture
  • reporting workflows

The result is a product concept built around a simple idea:

Testing creates evidence. Evidence enables decisions.
