The Welcome Dashboard is the first in-product experience users encounter after creating a Metricon account.
Its purpose is not to explain every navigation item or feature. Instead, it introduces the product’s value, communicates the capabilities available in the Free plan, and guides users toward their first meaningful outcome: completing a validation session and generating an interactive report.
The dashboard combines onboarding, product education, progressive access, and monetization within a single operational starting point.
The original onboarding was designed under strict implementation constraints. It used a seven-step tooltip tour attached to individual navigation items.
The solution was quick to implement, but it primarily explained the interface:
This helped users identify sections of the application, but it did not show them how the product created value or guide them through a complete workflow.
As Metricon evolved into an Evidence-Based Decision Platform, the onboarding model needed to evolve with it.
Traditional product tours often teach users where features are located without helping them achieve anything meaningful.
For Metricon, understanding the navigation was not the desired outcome. The user needed to experience the complete product loop:
select a device → perform a validation → review the report
The challenge was to create a dashboard that could:
The onboarding was redesigned around the product’s first-value moment:
The user successfully completes a validation session and opens the resulting interactive report.
This changed the onboarding model from a feature-led tour into a goal-oriented activation experience.
Instead of asking users to visit every area of the product, Metricon presents one guided workflow with a clear and useful result.
The onboarding is embedded directly within the dashboard rather than presented as a modal or a sequence of tooltips.
This keeps the product visible and allows users to explore the interface without losing their progress.
The Welcome Dashboard acts as a temporary activation state. Once the first validation is completed, its onboarding content can gradually be replaced by operational information such as recent reports, device access, and validation history.
Metricon’s value model is:
Evidence → Context → Understanding → Confidence → Decision
Rather than keeping this framework only in brand documentation, the dashboard introduces it as part of the product experience.
The section How Metricon creates decision confidence explains the transformation supported by the platform:
Evidence
Collect clear observations.
Context
Add meaning and relevance.
Understanding
Uncover patterns and insight.
Confidence
Build certainty in what matters.
Decision
Act with clarity and impact.
The framework is not used as a completion tracker. It explains why the user is performing the validation and what the resulting report is intended to support.
The onboarding flow is reduced to four visible stages:
The Free plan provides access to selected remote devices, allowing users to experience the product without preparing their own infrastructure.
Metricon connects to the selected device and opens a ready-to-use demo application automatically.
The session begins only after the user confirms that they are ready.
The user can inspect the captured evidence and understand how the session is transformed into a structured report.
Only the current step is visually emphasized. The remaining steps provide orientation without behaving like disabled navigation.
The demo application opens automatically after the user selects a remote device.
This automation reduces setup time, but it also creates a potential source of uncertainty. The interface therefore clearly separates two events:
The dashboard communicates this before the user leaves the page:
The demo application opens automatically. Recording starts when you are ready.
This prevents automatic preparation from being mistaken for automatic recording.
The Your workspace panel introduces the Free plan through concrete capabilities and measurable limits.
It does not use generic checkmarks, because those could be interpreted as completed tasks or enabled settings. Instead, each capability displays its actual access level.
Connect and validate using the user’s own devices.
Unlimited
Access selected remote validation environments.
9 devices
Create and store reports directly on the user’s computer.
Cloud sync and backup
Synchronize selected reports and protect them in cloud storage.
0 / 15 GB
Share interactive reports with team members or external reviewers, including people without Metricon accounts.
0 / 3 active
The model preserves a complete local workflow while monetizing capabilities that generate infrastructure cost or organizational value:
The upgrade message remains contextual and non-disruptive:
Upgrade when your team grows.
This positions the paid plans as an extension of increasing organizational needs rather than a requirement to complete the basic workflow.
The dashboard is divided into four complementary layers.
The main welcome area explains what Metricon does and provides two clear actions:
The first action supports users who are ready to begin. The secondary option provides additional context without interrupting activation.
The evidence-to-decision sequence explains the strategic role of the product.
The first-validation section shows the exact workflow leading to the user’s first report.
The right panel explains what the current plan provides and where usage limits apply.
This hierarchy keeps product education, onboarding, and commercial information connected without combining them into one dense message.
The dashboard leads users directly to the selection of a Shared Cloud Device.
The first-time experience does not initially ask them to choose between local and cloud validation. The guided cloud path provides a predictable environment and allows Metricon to open the demo application automatically.
Local devices remain fully available elsewhere in the product.
Navigation items are not individually explained. Their meaning becomes clear through use during the first workflow.
A new user has no recent reports, active sessions, or historical findings. The dashboard therefore avoids filling the screen with empty tables and placeholder analytics.
The available space is used for activation content that is relevant immediately.
Unlimited capabilities, fixed catalog access, storage consumption, and sharing limits are presented differently because they represent different types of access.
A lightweight utility bar communicates:
It provides useful operational information without introducing a marketing-style footer into the application.
The final Welcome Dashboard combines:
The experience does not attempt to teach the entire interface at once. It gives users enough context to begin, explains what will happen next, and leads them toward the first result that demonstrates the product’s value.

The redesigned dashboard transforms onboarding from a passive product tour into an active product experience.
Rather than learning where features are located, users learn Metricon by completing a real validation workflow. At the same time, the dashboard introduces the platform’s strategic value and commercial model without interrupting the task.
The result is an onboarding experience that connects:
user activation, product strategy, operational workflow, and progressive monetization
within one coherent interface.
